Hoopoe and owl are two oft the natural habitants of our garden. The Hoopoe has a distinctive, jerky style of flying and can be seen at days. Nightime is reserved for our owls (Los Búhos). Interminable is his calling over the fields, often answered by a distant collegue.
When back in 1990 my grandma came with us to spend the summer season in Can Búho, the first evening the owl began its calls: uh, uh, uh... and my gradma calling out to my mom: "Come fast! The telephone is ringing!" She confused the steadily repeating call with a ringing telephone! We had a good laugh together after clarifying the real cause of the noise and since the owl had ist own nickname in my family: the telephone-bird! Listen yourself!
By the end of Septembre the first rains come back to the island. It is wonderful to see how the islands suddenly gets green again. The rain showers are short, it is still warm and sun is coming out again soon after. Here the end of the rainbow is just next to the Finca: a good sign for your next holidays!
Autumn in Mallorca is rather like a summer in England or Germany. Rains never last for long and soon the fade back to the horizont from where they came from. This way you can sometimes observe the phenomenon of sheet lightning: the starry sky is being brightened by distant lightning. No thunder can be heard. On the picture with the palm tree you can see the plejades on the right side.
Early Octobre our two khaki trees wear bounty fruits. In yoghurt or in muesli the fresh fruits are delicious. At the same time our vine has new grapes (end of Septembre and Octobre).
Backstrokers are in advantage at Can Búho because they can enjoy the sight of the milky way at night. The warm summer evenings are beautiful, when the crickets are chirring and the distant stars flickering. Now you have two ways of taking a bath in the stars: backstroking or renting our professional telescope. While visible with the mere eyes, the milky way turns into a real adventure if seen with a telescope.
Hibiscus and zypresses at the entrance of Finca Can Búho.
Under bizzare olivetrees, just next to our small talayot, is our site for playing boccia/boule. Barney Flintstone would have loved the natural style of the boule.
Our Ayer's rock lies just behind the house and is only 2 hours away from your home! Walking to its top takes a little more than an hour and rewards with a beautiful sight into all directions.
The summer is the dry season. Yet there are always some flowers around the house.
In springtime the fruits in our little orchand ripens. Pomegranates, peaches, mediars. Oranges and mandarines have their fruits only in the winter, but the lemon tree has always some fruits for your fish-dishes. Some almonds from the garden for your dessert?
In two different groups of trees we have hung hammocks. Come here with your book or take a nap. The soft winds bring you pleaseont cooling and murmur misteriously in the needles of the trees.
Sundown in the slopes behind the house.
The nights are special when the stars come out at new moon or the fields lie in a soft shimmer at full moon. There are the nights in which, with a little luck, you can see the owl. Suddenly it emerges from the dark. Elegantly it glides by with softly moving wings. Without any noise at all. Giant. Otherworldly. From far you hear the calling of the hoopoo a pair of these birds are calling and responding for hours. The crickets in the field. Here you are nature's guest.
Sunrise in Finca Can Búho. Where do you want to spend this splendid day? At the beach or at the pool?
Who wants to easily finds one of our many wild turtles. They feed on the fruits in the orchard and the plants in the fields. Treat them with respect, they are protected by law! Apart from the turtles you can observe birds (hoopoo, quails, seagulls), geckos, bats and praying mantis. Observing nature needs patience. But all these animals are quite easy to discover. The weasels and wild cats hide more efficiently...
From March to June you can find many healing herbs in our Finca. Here is the rare Centauri Erythraea which can help your stomach. It's one of the famous Bach flowers. Many more can be discovered!
Wild orchids in March.
Aloe, Cistrose, cactus flowers and a little blue flower can be seen from March to April.
Poppies in the vicinities of Can Búho (Mach to April).
